Indian Police Bust Fake ‘Crime Bureau’, Arrest Six for Extortion in Noida

NEW DELHI: Indian police have arrested six men in Noida for allegedly running a bogus crime investigation bureau and extorting money from victims under the guise of “donations”, officials said on Sunday.

According to police, the suspects were operating from a rented office under the name “International Police and Crime Investigation Bureau”, which was decorated with official-looking colours, logos, and insignias to impersonate law enforcement.

Investigators revealed that the accused forged documents and certificates, created a fake website, and falsely claimed affiliations with Interpol and other international crime units. Police added that the group posed as public servants to gain credibility.

During the raid, officers seized mobile phones, cheque books, fake stamps, seals, and identity cards.

This crackdown comes just weeks after authorities arrested another man near New Delhi for operating a fake embassy — the so-called “West Arctic Embassy” — from a rented house, where he duped job seekers by promising overseas employment while posing as the ambassador of fictional nations such as “West Arctica, Saborga, Poulvia, and Lodonia”.
