KARACHI, August 25, 2025 — An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi has remanded Chanesar Town Chairman Farhan Ghani, brother of Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, into police custody until August 28 in connection with an alleged assault on a government employee.
The case stems from an FIR lodged at Ferozabad Police Station by Hafiz Sohail, a government official who claimed he was attacked while overseeing fibre optic cable installation near Sharae Faisal on August 22. The FIR includes charges of attempted murder and terrorism against Farhan Ghani and five associates.
Police presented the accused before the ATC at Karachi Central Jail, where the prosecution requested a 14-day physical remand for further investigation. During proceedings, the court questioned the applicability of anti-terrorism charges in the case.
Investigating Officer stated that the accused assaulted the official despite the presence of police security. However, Farhan Ghani denied the allegations, asserting that he was passing by when he noticed road excavation and intervened in his official capacity as Town Chairman.
“I simply asked for the No Objection Certificate (NOC). When they failed to produce it, I requested them to halt the work. I did not engage in any assault,” Ghani told the court.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court approved physical remand until August 28 and directed police to submit a progress report at the next hearing.
