Rawalpindi District Health Authority has made a major decision by including cervical cancer vaccination in the children’s immunization campaign.

‎According to CEO Health Rawalpindi Dr. Ehsan Ghani, the immunization campaign will now protect against 13 deadly diseases. The cervical cancer vaccine will be administered only to girls aged 9 years.

‎The Rawalpindi Health Department stated that from next February, the immunization campaign will continue throughout the year. This year, girls aged 9 to 14 years were given the HPV vaccine.

‎CEO Health Dr. Ehsan Ghani said that 94% of the target was achieved in the HPV vaccination campaign. Cervical cancer is among the deadliest diseases affecting women.

‎Dr. Ghani further stated that the vaccine given at the age of 9 will ensure long-term protection for girls. He clarified that the propaganda linking HPV vaccination to infertility is baseless and that the HPV vaccine has no serious side effects.

‎He added that mild fever may occur, which subsides quickly. He appealed to parents to ensure their 9 year old daughters receive the vaccine. Protecting girls from life threatening diseases like cervical cancer is our top priority.
