DI KHAN — A policeman was martyred in a terrorist attack on a police post in the Khatti area of Dera Ismail Khan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday, as militant assaults continue to surge across the province.
According to Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ashfaq Anwar, terrorists launched the assault from multiple directions, during which Post In-charge Ahmed Nawaz sustained serious injuries and later succumbed.
The attack coincided with another operation in Dera Ismail Khan, where Pakistan Army Major Sibtain Haider embraced martyrdom while seven terrorists were killed during a security forces’ raid.
The latest incident adds to a series of terror attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Bannu, Peshawar, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Bajaur, where police personnel have been repeatedly targeted.
Security reports from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) and the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) highlight KP as the most terrorism-affected province last month, recording 45 attacks that left 54 dead and 49 injured, alongside intensified counter-terrorism operations.
Authorities have vowed to strengthen security measures and eliminate terrorist networks operating in the region.
