HYDERABAD – Police detained 12 Afghan nationals during a combing operation in Shah Latif Colony and adjoining areas on Thursday night after they failed to produce valid documents, officials said.
According to a Sindh police spokesperson, the operation was launched to verify the identities of foreign residents in the area. The detained suspects were shifted to a nearby police station for interrogation and document verification.
SSP Adeel Chandio said the crackdown against illegal foreigners would continue in the district, adding that police were conducting similar actions in other parts of Sindh as well.
Earlier this week, several Afghan nationals were arrested in Karachi during a joint operation carried out by the police, Rangers, and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in different localities, including Sohrab Goth.
Authorities said such operations are part of an ongoing campaign to identify and deport undocumented Afghan refugees residing illegally in Pakistan.
