On August 2, 2027, the world will experience what astronomers call the Great North African Eclipse the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century. The celestial event will plunge large parts of North Africa, Southern Europe, and the Middle East into darkness for 6 minutes and 23 seconds, a duration unmatched by any other eclipse this century.

During the total phase, the Moon will completely cover the Sun, revealing the stunning solar corona to millions of viewers across its path. Experts say this rare spectacle will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for skywatchers and scientists alike.

The path of totality will cross through Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen. The city of Luxor in Egypt is expected to offer one of the most spectacular views of the eclipse, attracting astronomers and tourists from around the world.

Scientists are already preparing observation programs to study the Sun’s outer atmosphere during those precious minutes of darkness, which could offer new insights into solar dynamics and cosmic phenomena.
