Lahore: Pakistan Railways has suspended a Special Ticket Examiner (STE), identified as Irshad, following an incident in which he allegedly slapped a female passenger aboard a moving train, railway officials confirmed.
According to Divisional Commercial Officer Abdullah Arshad, a formal inquiry has been initiated after the suspension to determine responsibility and assess disciplinary action.
Railway sources said the incident occurred on the Pakistan Express train traveling from Faisalabad to Rawalpindi. A dispute reportedly broke out between passengers over luggage placement inside the coach. The situation escalated after heated arguments and the recording of videos by passengers, eventually leading to physical confrontation.
Sources added that the train remained halted for a short period during the altercation, while other passengers intervened and managed to defuse the situation.
Railway authorities stated that action was taken following multiple complaints from passengers. The suspended ticket examiner, along with the on-duty police personnel and train guard, has been summoned to appear before the inquiry committee on Monday.
Officials confirmed that the incident took place four to five days ago.
