A 45 year old man in the Indian capital New Delhi became severely ill and was hospitalized after using HIV prevention medicines on the advice of an artificial intelligence chatbot without consulting a doctor.

‎According to Indian media, the patient purchased HIV prevention medicines on his own and started a full course. Within a few days, he developed a severe and life threatening allergic reaction known as Stevens Johnson syndrome, which led to his hospitalization.

‎Experts responding to the case explained that Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis is a recognized medical treatment for preventing HIV, but it is safe and effective only when taken under medical supervision, with proper tests and regular follow up.

‎Medical specialists warned that using such medicines without professional guidance can cause serious side effects, organ damage and even endanger life.

‎Health experts cautioned the public that AI tools are meant only for general information and not for diagnosis or prescribing medicines, and that any powerful medication should be used only on the advice of a qualified doctor.
