Expansion Plan for Civil Hospital Karachi Approved for the First Time

The expansion plan for Civil Hospital has been approved, under which the hospital will be increased to 2,500 beds after the addition of 500 beds.

‎According to details, approval of Rs100 billion has been granted and it has also been decided to construct two 12 storey towers.

‎Civil Hospital Karachi, which was built in 1898 before the creation of Pakistan, has been approved for an expansion plan for the first time. The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

‎During the meeting, the Chief Minister of Sindh also gave final approval to the new master plan of Civil Hospital Karachi and it was decided that Civil Hospital Karachi would be developed into a center of the most modern international medical facilities at a cost of Rs100 billion.

‎The 120 year old historic building Queen Victoria, along with other heritage buildings within the Civil Hospital premises, will also be preserved.

‎Under the approved new expansion plan, Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital will be reconstructed according to modern requirements and it has been decided to build two 12 storey towers within the hospital premises. Separate towers will be constructed for medical and surgery units so that patients can be provided all medical facilities under a one window system.

‎To transform Civil Hospital Karachi into a state of the art hospital, private partners will also be included under a public private partnership. In the meeting, the Sindh Chief Minister also gave final approval to the new master plan of Civil Hospital with private partners.

‎Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital, Dr Khalid Bukhari, said that Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho appreciated the efforts for the new expansion plan of Civil Hospital and stated that around 6,000 to 7,000 patients visit Civil Hospital daily for examination and treatment. The health minister said the expansion plan has been prepared to make treatment easier for all these patients.
