A woman and her 13-year-old son were killed during an alleged robbery at their home in the Kot Madina area of Khanewal, in what police described as a late-night attack after the family resisted the intruders. The victims were identified as Farhana, who worked at a beauty parlour, and her son Zeeshan. Police said unidentified assailants entered the house while the family was asleep and fled after taking mobile phones and other valuables.

According to initial reports, the mother and son were allegedly strangled to death. Two younger children in the house — three-year-old Hania and four-year-old Shaban — were not harmed. Police also said Farhana’s husband has been living in Saudi Arabia for several years.

The case has drawn particular attention because, according to family members, Zeeshan had memorised 29 chapters of the Holy Quran that same day and had distributed sweets among fellow students. Hours later, he was dead.

Senior police officials, including the Regional Police Officer Multan and District Police Officer Khanewal Muhammad Abid, visited the scene after the incident. Police said multiple teams had been formed to track down the suspects, while investigators collected evidence and recorded statements from relatives and local residents. The bodies were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination.

There was additional tension after the post-mortem when two families reportedly disputed custody of the bodies. Farhana’s body was later handed over to her brother, while Zeeshan’s remains were given to his grandfather for burial.

The killings come against the backdrop of broader concerns over street crime and robbery in Khanewal. Police say the investigation is continuing and efforts are under way to identify and arrest those responsible.
