The Lahore High Court has granted Meesha Shafi partial relief in the long-running defamation case filed by Ali Zafar, suspending the trial court’s verdict only to the extent of the Rs5 million damages payment. The court, however, did not suspend the restriction on Shafi from repeating the harassment allegations against Zafar.
The relief came with conditions. The court directed Shafi to deposit Rs2.5 million in cash and furnish a surety bond for the remaining Rs2.5 million, making it clear that the suspension of the damages portion was not absolute.
The case stems from a sessions court ruling delivered on March 31, 2026, when the trial court decided the defamation matter in Ali Zafar’s favour and ordered Meesha Shafi to pay Rs5 million in damages. Shafi later challenged that decision before the Lahore High Court.
The latest order means the financial part of the judgment has been put on hold for now, subject to the court’s conditions, while the non-financial restraint remains in place. In practical terms, Shafi has received only partial relief, not a full suspension of the lower court’s verdict.
