Israel has launched a series of airstrikes on the Houthi-controlled Yemeni port city of Hodeidah, following a ballistic missile attack by Houthi forces that landed near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, wounding several people.
According to Israeli officials, the airstrikes targeted alleged military infrastructure used by the Houthis to launch their attack. Footage from local media showed heavy smoke and damage in parts of Hodeidah, though casualties remain unconfirmed.
The Israeli response came hours after US strikes were also reported near the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. American officials have not commented publicly, but regional observers note the timing as coordinated amid rising tensions in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Yesterday’s missile launch marked one of the closest strikes to a major Israeli civilian center since cross-regional hostilities intensified earlier this year. The Houthis claimed responsibility, stating it was in retaliation for Israel’s military operations in Gaza.
The escalation has sparked international concern, with peace and humanitarian organizations urging restraint. Yemen remains in a prolonged humanitarian crisis, and renewed hostilities threaten to worsen conditions for civilians in the affected areas.
The United Nations has yet to issue an official statement, but diplomatic sources suggest calls are mounting for emergency consultations on the rising cross-border tensions.
