Major Changes Likely in Pakistan Test Squad; Shan Masood’s Captaincy Under Threat

Karachi, June 10, 2026 — Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly preparing for significant decisions ahead of the upcoming home Test series against the West Indies and England. Sources suggest major changes are expected in the national Test squad, team leadership, and PCB management.

Major Overhaul Expected in Fast-Bowling Unit

According to sources, sweeping changes are likely in Pakistan’s Test squad for the West Indies and England series. Senior fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, along with spinner Noman Ali, are reportedly at risk of being dropped from the squad.

As part of a strategy to inject fresh talent into the Test setup, the PCB has invited several promising domestic performers to a training camp. The fast bowlers called up include Aamer Jamal, Amat Part, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Ali, Ubaid Shah, Musa Khan, Saqib Khan, Shahnawaz Dahani, Shehzad Gul, and Mohammad Owais Zafar.

In the spin department, Ali Usman and Mubashir Khan are among the players being considered for selection.

Test Captaincy Decision Expected This Week

The issue of Test captaincy has also gained momentum. Sources indicate that Shan Masood’s position as Test captain is under serious threat, with PCB Chairman expected to make a final decision on his future later this week.

The board’s think tank is reportedly dissatisfied with Masood’s recent leadership performances. Sources claim that vice-captain Salman Ali Agha has emerged as the leading candidate to replace him and is currently considered the favorite for the Test captaincy role.

Possible Changes in PCB Management

Apart from squad and leadership changes, reports also suggest a potential reshuffle within PCB management. An important meeting, expected to be chaired by the PCB Chairman this week, will reportedly discuss several key appointments.

Questions have also been raised regarding the future of Team Director Sarfaraz Ahmed. While he may be given one more opportunity during the West Indies and England series, sources suggest that former captain Younis Khan could be considered as a replacement if the team fails to deliver the desired results.

Additionally, Mohammad Hafeez is reportedly being considered for the role of Director International, potentially replacing Shan Masood in that position.

The PCB is expected to make official announcements regarding all these matters later this week.
