The University of Karachi has announced a one-month research internship programme for final-year MBBS and BDS students, offering them an opportunity to gain practical experience in medical and scientific research. The programme will be conducted by the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), operating under the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi. The internship is scheduled to run from December 1 to December 31, 2026, with applications open until November 10, 2026.
The programme aims to introduce medical and dental students to modern scientific research and help them develop practical skills in molecular and cellular studies. Selected candidates will spend four weeks working in different research sections of PCMD, where they will learn how to develop research questions, apply appropriate research methods and critically evaluate scientific findings. The initiative is designed to encourage future doctors and dentists to explore research alongside their clinical education.
According to the programme announcement, students will have opportunities to gain exposure to nine different research fields. These include Artificial Intelligence in Health Sciences, Bioequivalence Studies, Genomics, Immunology and Microbiology, Molecular and Structural Biology, Pharmacology, Proteomics, Stem Cell Research and Virology. The research activities will focus on human diseases, including their diagnosis, treatment and prevention, with particular attention to medical conditions affecting Pakistan.
Final-year MBBS and BDS students interested in applying must submit their CV, academic marks sheet or marks proforma, and a recommendation letter from their department head. Applicants are also required to mention their preferred research area in their application. The institute has clarified that the internship is unpaid, meaning selected participants will not receive any financial compensation. Interested students are encouraged to complete their applications before the November 10 deadline.
