The government has taken an important decision to conduct large scale screening in view of the alleged spread of HIV in Karachi’s Pathan Colony and Walika Hospital.
According to sources, the Sindh AIDS Control Program will launch emergency HIV screening in the areas surrounding Walika Hospital and Pathan Colony. In this regard, the federal government will provide full support to the Sindh government, under which it will supply 50,000 HIV testing kits to the Sindh AIDS Control Program.
Under the plan, all suspected individuals visiting Walika Hospital will undergo HIV testing, while residents of various areas of Pathan Colony will also be screened.
Sources further stated that during the screening process, all individuals testing HIV positive in Pathan Colony and at Walika Hospital will be immediately registered. Following registration, these patients will be provided free medicines and medical treatment facilities by the government.
