KARACHI — The metropolis received its first official spell of monsoon showers on Friday as multiple localities across the length and breadth of the city reported light to moderate rain. According to reports from Dawn News, precipitation was recorded in an array of expansive neighborhoods, including Azizabad, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Sharea Faisal, Sohrab Goth, Gulshan-i-Maymar, Ancholi, Manghopir, Surjani Town, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, the Super Highway network, Ahsanabad, and Nazimabad. The rain spell also swept through the industrial Site Area, Rizvia, Golimar, Liaquatabad, Orangi Town, Benaras, Ibrahim Hyderi, Clifton, the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Korangi, Landhi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, and Model Town. In response to the sudden downpour, the Karachi traffic police issued an urgent travel advisory warning citizens to drive at slow speeds as accumulation created highly slippery road conditions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the cloudy weather pattern accompanied by light rain will persist in Karachi over the next three to four days. Earlier in the day, taking proactive notice of the changing weather system, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and municipal district administrations across the entire province to remain on high alert. The chief minister instructed all relevant infrastructure and emergency services departments to execute immediate precautionary and response measures, as strong monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea continue to deeply impact the coastal and internal regions of Sindh.
