ISLAMABAD — The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an urgent warning regarding escalating flood risks across multiple regions of Pakistan as relentless monsoon rainfall continues to swell major rivers and seasonal streams. According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), medium-level flooding has already been registered along key points of the Chenab River—specifically at Khanki, Qadirabad, and Chiniot Bridge—as well as at the Palkhu Nala in Wazirabad. Simultaneously, low-level flooding persists along several crucial locations of the Indus, Ravi, and Kabul rivers, with water inflows projected to rise significantly over the next 24 hours, threatening to push the Trimmu Barrage into medium-level flood territory.

In addition to riverine threats, the disaster management authority has sounded alarms for potential flash floods within the next 24 to 48 hours across the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, seasonal streams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern Balochistan. Heavy downpours also pose a severe urban flooding risk to major administrative hubs in Punjab, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Multan. Motorists and the general public have been strictly advised to suspend unnecessary travel to affected areas, avoid riverbanks and steep mountainous slopes prone to landslides, and utilize the official Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application to monitor rapidly changing road conditions and emergency weather updates.
