MUZAFFARABAD — The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has formally accused administrative authorities of widespread electoral irregularities during the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) General Elections 2026. Following the conclusion of polling across the Mirpur Division, a high-level PPP delegation led by senior leaders Nayyar Bukhari and Qamar Zaman Kaira met with the Chief Election Commissioner in Muzaffarabad. The opposition party officially requested the Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to withhold the final announcement and suspend the release of unofficial results until an exhaustive inquiry report by the respective Returning Officers is completed.

During the high-stakes meeting, Nayyar Bukhari asserted that the PPP maintained a strong democratic majority throughout the electoral process and was leading comfortably in seven distinct constituencies. However, he alleged that targeted unrest during polling in Kotli and the forceful removal of PPP polling agents from stations in another constituency deliberately compromised the integrity of the vote. Qamar Zaman Kaira emphasized that the party has deliberately chosen to pursue formal institutional and constitutional remedies before resorting to public protests. The PPP leadership argued that the Election Commission should exercise its authority to delay the result announcements in the disputed areas, maintaining that halting the process in affected sectors would not disrupt the broader electoral timeline across other districts.
