Brushing your teeth is essential, but it doesn’t always eliminate bad breath. That’s because many causes of bad breath go beyond the surface of your teeth.
Bacteria on the tongue are one of the biggest reasons. These bacteria break down food particles and release sulfur compounds that create unpleasant odors. If you only brush your teeth and skip cleaning your tongue, bad breath can remain.
Dry mouth is another common cause. Saliva naturally washes away bacteria, so when your mouth is dry, odor-causing bacteria multiply more easily. Certain foods, smoking, gum disease, cavities, and digestive issues can also contribute.
For fresher breath, brush twice daily, clean your tongue, floss regularly, stay hydrated, and visit your dentist for routine checkups. If bad breath continues despite good oral hygiene, it may indicate an underlying medical condition that should be evaluated.
