HYDERABAD — Civic life in Hyderabad came to a virtual standstill on Sunday as intermittent heavy rainfall inundated major roads, submerged key commercial markets, and caused widespread power outages. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), 42mm of rain was recorded at the Latifabad Met Office and 40mm at the City Office by late afternoon. The downpour severely impacted infrastructure, with the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) reporting power suspensions across 285 of its 722 high-tension feeders. The lack of electricity also disrupted operations at the Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation (HWSC), crippling water supply facilities and stalling trade in major business hubs such as City Cloth Market, Tower Market, Anaj Mandi, and multiple units in Latifabad.

Elsewhere in Sindh, severe weather conditions prevailed, with Mithi district registering the highest rainfall at 126mm, followed by Chhor at 81mm and Badin at 69mm. The latest downpours align with a broader advisory issued a day earlier by the PMD, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan through August 4.
