Thunderstorms, Rain to Lash Pakistan’s Upper and Central Regions

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms, and dust storms across various upper and central regions of the country on May 23 and 24.

According to the PMD, moist winds continue to enter these regions, while a westerly weather system is expected to reach the upper areas on May 24, further intensifying the weather activity.

Areas likely to experience rainfall, thunder, and lightning include Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, and the Galiyat. In Punjab, showers are expected in Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Sheikhupura.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will also be affected, with potential thunderstorms and strong winds in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Karak, and Waziristan.In Balochistan, rain is predicted in Zhob, Ziarat, and Barkhan.

The PMD has urged the public to stay cautious and take all necessary safety measures during this period of unstable weather.

 

Shortened Heatwave Advisory:
Earlier, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab issued safety guidelines for cattle markets amid expected heatwave conditions ahead of Eid ul Adha. Authorities have been instructed to ensure water availability, install temporary sheds, and set up health and veterinary facilities. The PDMA emphasized that with proper precautions, the impact of June’s intense heat can be minimized, urging both traders and buyers to stay alert and follow safety protocols.
