A high-level inspection team is set to descend on the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) tomorrow, as federal health authorities move to address persistent complaints regarding patient care and operational mismanagement.

The audit follows a series of internal reports detailing supply chain bottlenecks and inconsistent staffing levels that have hampered the hospital’s emergency and outpatient services. Sources within the Ministry of National Health Services confirmed the inspection will focus on administrative oversight and the allocation of the hospital’s annual budget.

For the thousands of patients who rely on PIMS, the facility has become a site of frustration. Long wait times for diagnostic tests and a recurring scarcity of essential medicines have pushed the hospital’s capacity to its breaking point.

The inspection team, comprised of senior health ministry officials and independent financial auditors, has been tasked with a deep dive into the hospital’s procurement files. They aren’t just looking at the books; they’re assessing why basic medical supplies—often funded by federal grants—fail to reach the wards.

Management at PIMS has been bracing for this visit for days. Earlier this week, department heads were instructed to organize attendance logs and inventory records, a move some staff describe as “damage control” rather than genuine reform.

Previous audits have often ended in minor administrative reshuffles, leaving the underlying systemic issues untouched. Whether this visit yields tangible change or remains a performative exercise in bureaucracy is the question currently circulating among the hospital’s medical staff.

The team is expected to submit its preliminary findings to the health minister by the end of the week. For now, the administration is under pressure to prove that the capital’s largest public hospital can function without a federal intervention.
