PESHAWAR, October 29, 2026: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said that the relevant administration will decide the legal status of Mufti Mehmood Centre in Peshawar, stressing that action against illegal encroachments will be taken without discrimination.
Speaking about the ongoing anti-encroachment drive, the governor said the relevant departments were examining the matter transparently and in accordance with the law.
Kundi maintained that anyone occupying land illegally would have to vacate it, regardless of their political influence or position. He also said he would not recommend exemptions for anyone facing action over encroachments.
The governor added that even if his own house were found to be built on encroached land, it should be demolished.
His remarks come amid tensions surrounding an anti-encroachment notice targeting parts of Mufti Mehmood Centre, which serves as a key centre for Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) in Peshawar.
JUI-F leaders and party workers have expressed concern over the proposed action, while members of the party’s Ansar-ul-Islam organisation have reportedly gathered at the premises amid fears of demolition.
The administration’s decision on the centre’s legal status is expected to determine the next course of action in the ongoing dispute.
The governor reiterated that the law should be applied equally to everyone and that no individual or organisation should receive preferential treatment in matters involving illegal occupation of land.
