KARACHI, October 30, 2026: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Sindh Assembly has ordered an investigation into non-functional medical equipment at several hospitals run by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Nisar Khuhro to review KMC’s audit objections for 2024 and 2025. Audit officials informed the committee that X-ray, ultrasound and ECG machines were found non-functional at Sobhraj Maternity Hospital and other KMC facilities.
The hospital’s medical superintendent informed the committee that its X-ray machine had remained out of order from 2022 to 2025 but had recently been repaired. Committee members raised concerns over the difficulties faced by patients due to the unavailability of diagnostic facilities. The committee also discussed reports of non-operational MRI machines at other hospitals because of equipment faults and shortages of technical staff.
PAC Chairman Nisar Khuhro directed the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) to investigate the condition of X-ray, CT scan, ultrasound, MRI and ECG machines at KMC hospitals and other healthcare facilities across Sindh. The team has been asked to submit its findings within one month. The committee also ordered physical verification and educational qualification checks of more than 10,000 KMC employees, along with the introduction of a biometric attendance system.
