Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazal ur Rehman has accused the federal government of misleading the public regarding negotiations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), raising questions about the government’s seriousness and commitment to resolving the ongoing political tensions through dialogue.
Maulana Fazal ur Rehman said that efforts had been made to bring the government and PTI closer to the negotiating table in order to reduce political tensions and find a peaceful solution to the ongoing dispute. He stated that both sides had approached him to play a mediating role and help resolve their differences through political discussions.
According to Fazal ur Rehman, he held separate meetings with representatives of the government and PTI to explore possibilities for reaching an understanding. He said that discussions had made some progress and there were hopes that both sides could agree on a way forward.
However, he alleged that the government later changed its position and failed to honour the commitments made during the mediation process. He questioned why the government had sought his assistance in facilitating negotiations if it was not prepared to follow the proposed course of action.
The JUI-F chief also expressed concern over the government’s decisions regarding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly the imposition of emergency measures and Governor’s Rule. He criticised the move, arguing that political and constitutional matters should be resolved through democratic dialogue rather than administrative actions.
Fazal ur Rehman maintained that political disagreements should be addressed through negotiations, mutual understanding and constitutional procedures. He also indicated that his party would continue to raise its concerns through democratic and parliamentary forums.
The controversy has added another dimension to the already tense political situation between the government and PTI. The developments have also raised questions about the future of negotiations and the possibility of restoring political dialogue between the two sides.
