In a groundbreaking initiative, Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has launched Pakistan’s first and exemplary Virtual Blood Bank in the province.
Citizens can now connect to the Virtual Blood Bank by calling the emergency helpline 15 and pressing 4. Upon connection, a duty officer from Punjab Safe City will obtain the patient’s location and blood group information.
Through a conference call, registered blood donors in the patient’s area are immediately connected with the patient’s family. Police personnel from the relevant local police station are also actively involved in this noble cause of blood donation.
The process for donor registration is simple. Blood donors can register by calling helpline 15, visiting the official Safe City website, or through Police Khidmat Counters set up in government hospitals.
On average, the Virtual Blood Bank receives 2,500 blood requests daily, and around 250 patients in urgent need of blood are provided assistance each day. So far, more than 25,000 blood donors are registered, including 10,000 police officers and 15,000 civilians.
This 24/7 service has already benefitted over 14,000 patients across Punjab.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif urged citizens, especially the youth, to take part in this life-saving effort, emphasizing that “every drop of blood is precious in times of need.”
She added, “A single drop of blood can bring hope and life to someone in need. Punjab has now entered a new era of digitalization, and we will continue to enhance the quality of public services.”
