A horrifying video showing the brutal killing of a woman and a man in the name of “honor” has recently gone viral on social media, reportedly from the province of Balochistan. This shocking incident is yet another painful reminder of how innocent lives, especially those of women, continue to be taken under the pretext of preserving family or tribal “honor.”
The President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta, issued a strong condemnation of the incident. In an official statement, he declared that the Supreme Court Bar Association expresses deep sorrow and condemnation over the barbaric killing of an innocent and defenseless woman in Balochistan. He emphasized that this tragic event reflects a recurring pattern of gender-based violence where women are victimized based on false notions of honor and shame.
The statement further clarified that so-called honor killings have no basis in provincial, national, cultural, social, or religious values, nor are they recognized under any legal or constitutional framework in Pakistan. Such acts represent the worst form of violence against women, fueled by a flawed and regressive belief that the victim somehow damaged the family’s reputation.
“These actions are not only illegal but also challenge the rule of law and the state’s authority,” the statement read. “No individual or group has the right to act as judge, jury, and executioner. Only the state has the legitimate right to dispense justice.”
The Bar Association emphasized the urgent need for stronger legal frameworks to protect women’s rights and curb the rising incidents of such heinous crimes. It called on the provincial government and law enforcement agencies to immediately arrest those responsible and ensure they receive exemplary punishment to deter others.
This incident is not just a criminal issue — it is a matter of national consciousness and social reform. Without state intervention, the dangerous ideologies justifying such brutality will continue to thrive. It is time to act decisively to protect women and uphold the sanctity of life and law in Pakistan.
