A meeting of the HIV/AIDS Task Force was held under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Health Mukhtar Bharath, during which it was agreed to prepare a National Public Health Law to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country.
Mukhtar Bharath said that the purpose of the task force is to investigate the matter, identify those responsible and formulate recommendations. During the meeting, the task force directed an investigation into incidents involving the reuse of contaminated syringes.
Members of the task force presented their proposals and recommendations during the meeting. The task force said that NIH, CDC and CMU should activate a dashboard to ensure a real-time data system, while monitoring HIV cases, analyzing trends and improving the coordination system.
According to the task force, the aim is to ensure the prevention of HIV spread caused by unsafe medical practices. It was also agreed to present a comprehensive report to formulate recommendations for making the control of infectious diseases more effective.
The task force directed strengthening infection prevention and control measures, making HIV tests mandatory during screening and ensuring regular inspections of medical centers and pharmacies.
The task force said that action should be taken against the sale or mislabeling of reusable syringes and emphasized ensuring the effective implementation of patient safety protocols.
The task force also directed all healthcare commissions across the country to ensure regulatory enforcement under all circumstances.
