Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC) has become Pakistan’s first public sector medical college to introduce virtual body dissection, marking a major step forward in modern medical education. The new digital anatomy system is designed to provide students with an interactive, technology-driven learning experience that meets international educational standards.
The state-of-the-art virtual dissection platform, valued at approximately Rs15 million, was inaugurated at the college in Lahore. The life-size, touch-enabled 3D system allows students to explore the human body in detail by digitally dissecting organs and tissues, rotating anatomical structures in 360 degrees, and studying complex body systems without the use of traditional cadavers or chemicals.
Principal of the Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) and Lahore General Hospital (LGH), Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal, said the technology will transform anatomy education by offering students a safer, cleaner, and more comprehensive way to understand the human body. He added that the facility will also help students practice medical procedures in a controlled environment before treating real patients, improving their clinical skills and confidence.
According to the college administration, the advanced laboratory has been established with the support of philanthropists to strengthen medical education and research. The initiative reflects AMC’s commitment to adopting innovative teaching methods and preparing future doctors with the latest digital healthcare technologies.
Medical education experts believe virtual body dissection can complement traditional anatomy teaching by improving students’ understanding of complex anatomical structures through realistic 3D visualization. The new facility is expected to enhance learning outcomes and position AMC among Pakistan’s leading institutions for technology-based medical education.
