Karachi: Alleged drug network operator Anmol alias Pinky was sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand on Friday after being produced before judicial magistrates in multiple narcotics cases and a murder case amid tight security at the Judicial Complex inside Central Jail.

The court order came after her physical remands ended in cases registered at the Baghdadi, Special Investigation Unit/CIA, Gizri and Darakhshan police stations. Prosecutors sought further custody, but the courts declined the request and directed investigation officers to submit charge-sheets after completing their probes.

Anmol was arrested earlier this month in Karachi in connection with cases involving alleged possession of narcotics and an unlicensed weapon. Police have claimed that she was linked to an organised drug supply network and had already been booked in more than a dozen criminal cases before her latest court appearance.

According to police claims, cocaine, chemicals, other narcotics and a pistol were recovered during the operation. Investigators alleged that the suspect supplied drugs through an organised chain, including online orders and designated riders in areas such as Clifton and DHA.

The case has drawn unusual public attention, not only because of the scale of the alleged network but also because of the way the suspect was earlier brought to court. A video showing her being escorted without handcuffs triggered criticism and led senior police officials to order an inquiry into possible violation of standard procedures.

During earlier proceedings, Anmol denied the allegations and claimed she had been pressured to name people. She also alleged that she had been kept in custody before being formally shown arrested. The court had previously extended her physical remand in a murder case registered at Baghdadi Police Station, while ordering her judicial remand in several other cases.

For now, the matter has moved into the next legal stage. Investigators have been told to complete their work and place charge-sheets before the courts. Several related remands are also due to expire on May 30, meaning the case may return to court within days.

The allegations remain subject to trial, and the accused has not been convicted.
