Islamabad: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has firmly rejected allegations regarding discrepancies in the federal budget documents and the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data, stating that all figures presented by the government are based on officially verified statistics and established methodologies.
Addressing concerns raised by lawmakers and economic observers, Aurangzeb said the government remains committed to transparency and accuracy in fiscal reporting. He emphasized that the budget was prepared using data provided by relevant institutions and reviewed through established procedures before being presented to parliament.
The finance minister dismissed suggestions that inconsistencies existed between various budget documents and economic indicators, arguing that misunderstandings may have arisen due to differing interpretations of technical data. He maintained that the government’s economic figures accurately reflect the country’s fiscal position and growth performance.
Aurangzeb also defended the GDP growth estimates and broader economic outlook outlined in the FY27 budget, highlighting improvements in macroeconomic indicators, inflation management, foreign exchange reserves, and investor confidence. According to him, the government’s policies are aimed at sustaining economic recovery while ensuring fiscal discipline.
The remarks came amid ongoing parliamentary debate over the federal budget, with opposition lawmakers questioning several economic assumptions and projections. The finance minister reiterated that the government welcomes scrutiny but rejected claims that official data had been manipulated or misrepresented.
Economic analysts note that GDP statistics and budget estimates often become subjects of political debate, particularly during budget sessions, as policymakers and opposition parties present competing views on the country’s economic performance.
