A massive pileup involving six vehicles brought evening traffic to a standstill on Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal today, leaving commuters stranded for hours and reigniting debates over reckless driving on the city’s primary artery.

The chain-reaction collision occurred near the Nursery area. Amateur footage circulating on social media shows the aftermath: crumpled bumpers, shattered glass, and motorists scrambling to pull passengers from the wreckage. While the scale of the crash suggests severe impact, initial reports from rescue services indicate no fatalities, though several people were treated for injuries at the scene.

The footage—which has since gone viral—captures the chaotic scene moments after the impact. One silver sedan is seen pinned between a public bus and a commercial van, illustrating the force of the collision. Witnesses claim the incident was triggered when a speeding vehicle attempted to cut across lanes, causing the following cars to brake abruptly.

Traffic police arrived roughly 40 minutes after the crash, struggling to clear the debris as a backlog of vehicles stretched for miles toward the airport and downtown respectively. The blockage turned a standard 20-minute commute into a two-hour ordeal for thousands of residents heading home during rush hour.

“I was stuck near FTC for nearly an hour before I even realized why,” said one commuter, who abandoned his motorcycle to walk the rest of the way. “The entire road was a parking lot. It’s the same story here every week—someone drives like they own the road, and everyone else pays the price.”

This stretch of Shahrah-e-Faisal is notorious for frequent accidents, often blamed on the mix of heavy public transport, private cars, and aggressive lane-changing. Despite the installation of speed cameras in certain zones, enforcement remains inconsistent.

Police have yet to issue a formal statement regarding the specific driver at fault, citing the ongoing investigation into the video evidence. For now, the road has been cleared, but the incident leaves behind a familiar frustration among Karachiites: a city where a single reckless maneuver can paralyze an entire district.
