A family in Karachi has accused a private hospital of kidnapping their newborn, alleging that medical staff swapped the infant or concealed the birth. The hospital management has responded with a stark counter-claim: they insist no delivery occurred at their facility.
The parents arrived at the hospital in North Nazimabad on Tuesday night, claiming the mother was in labor. According to the father, the woman was admitted, treated by staff, and subsequently gave birth to a baby boy. Hours later, the family alleges, they were told by hospital staff that there had been no birth and that the mother had not been pregnant.
Tension boiled over Wednesday morning as relatives gathered outside the facility, blocking the road and demanding police intervention. The family maintains they have medical records and ultrasound reports from the same facility confirming the pregnancy and the expected delivery date.
“They are lying to our faces,” the father told reporters outside the hospital gates. “We have the documentation. We paid the admission fees. Now they act like we were never here.”
Police arrived on the scene to disperse the crowd and have taken the hospital’s medical superintendent into custody for questioning. Investigators are currently seizing hospital logs, admission records, and CCTV footage from the labor ward to determine if the mother was indeed admitted and treated as alleged.
The hospital administration remains firm in its denial. In a brief statement issued to the press, a spokesperson claimed the woman arrived with complications but that medical examination showed no signs of a full-term pregnancy or a recent delivery. They described the family’s claims as a “premeditated attempt to extort the facility.”
The case now hinges on the forensic audit of the hospital’s patient registration system. If the records show a discrepancy—or if the mother’s medical condition confirms a recent birth—the hospital faces severe legal consequences, including the potential permanent revocation of its operating license.
