Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while addressing a ceremony in Quetta, said that being poor should not mean that a person cannot receive medical treatment, adding that free and quality healthcare is the basic right of every citizen of the country.

‎He said that the trauma center established in Quetta is a modern 150 bed hospital equipped with advanced facilities including ICU and HDU services, while a paperless system has also been introduced at the hospital.

‎Bilawal Bhutto said that he was highly impressed by the establishment of the modern trauma hospital in Quetta and that the hospital’s services would be compared with major hospitals across Pakistan.

‎He said that the trauma center would become the first public hospital in Balochistan to provide 100 percent free and quality treatment.

‎The PPP chairman stated that a doctor had left Saudi Arabia to serve at the Quetta Trauma Center, which he described as a sign of confidence in the project.

‎He said that the Chief Minister of Balochistan had initiated and completed several projects within two years, while also promising that all development projects would be completed within five years.

‎Bilawal Bhutto said that today’s program included the inauguration of 20 projects, but he was inaugurating 11 projects today, while the remaining projects would be inaugurated after Eid. Smiling, he remarked, “I said keep inviting me again and again.”

‎He said that it had always been his wish to launch healthcare projects in Balochistan similar to those in Sindh so that people could receive free and quality medical treatment at their doorstep.

‎During his address, he said that the education and health sectors are directly linked to the public, and that the Pakistan Peoples Party has always strived to provide better healthcare facilities to the people.

‎Bilawal Bhutto said that economic difficulties affect underdeveloped areas and vulnerable segments of society the most, and if these issues are not controlled, they could turn into an economic crisis.

‎He said that it should not be the case that only wealthy people can afford treatment, because everyone needs medical care at some point in life.

‎The PPP chairman said that the Pakistan Peoples Party believes in people friendly and pro poor politics, and helping the common man remains the central focus of the party’s politics.

‎He said that the province of Balochistan is rich in natural resources, and if proper planning is carried out, significant improvements can be brought to the lives of its people.

‎Bilawal Bhutto said that the polio vaccination campaign was launched by Benazir Bhutto during her tenure, while severe challenges were also faced during the famine situation in Tharparkar. However, he added that their performance is now better than that of other provinces.

Medical Specialist Group Appoints Dr. Sarah Jenkins as Lead Gastroenterologist The Medical Specialist Group has named Dr. Sarah Jenkins as its new lead gastroenterologist, a move aimed at expanding the clinic’s diagnostic capabilities amid a rising local demand for specialized digestive care. Dr. Jenkins joins the group after an eight-year tenure at City General, where she headed the endoscopy unit. Her arrival marks a shift for the practice; the group has previously outsourced complex gastrointestinal procedures, but Dr. Jenkins’ expertise—specifically in advanced endoscopic ultrasound—will now allow them to perform these interventions in-house. The clinic’s board pushed for this hire following a 15% uptick in patient referrals for chronic digestive issues over the last year. Patients often faced weeks-long wait times for consultations; bringing in a specialist with Dr. Jenkins’ clinical background is intended to cut that backlog by nearly half. "Our goal is to keep patient care under one roof," said the group’s medical director, Dr. Marcus Thorne. "Bringing Dr. Jenkins on board means we stop sending our patients across town for the procedures they need most." Dr. Jenkins, who completed her fellowship at Johns Hopkins, brings a focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and early-stage screening. She starts in her new role Monday, with the clinic already scheduling patients for her first week of internal procedures. The appointment comes as the group undergoes a broader renovation of its surgical wing, suggesting a push to modernize facilities alongside its recruitment of specialized staff. Whether this transition eases the local specialist shortage long-term remains to be seen, but for the clinic’s current patient list, the change brings immediate access to care that was previously out of reach.
