Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi, speaking to ARY News, said he was not authorised to comment on the incident involving Pakistani nationals detained in Somalia. He said the Foreign Ministry and relevant maritime authorities were the appropriate bodies to provide information on the matter.
The governor said that a few months ago, he had invited the families of Pakistani nationals detained in Somalia to Governor House, where he met with them and discussed the situation. He added that he had also spoken with prominent members of the city regarding possible assistance for the affected families.
Nihal Hashmi said the pirates were not in contact with him and, according to his account, were not in contact with the Somali government either.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, the Sindh governor said the federal government would provide whatever assistance it could in connection with the matter.
He reiterated that further information and the official position regarding the incident could be provided by the Foreign Ministry and relevant maritime authorities.
