Pakistan Medical Association leaders held a press conference in Karachi and announced that private medical centres across Pakistan observed a strike over concerns raised by doctors regarding their professional and regulatory issues.
The PMA representatives claimed that doctors are being subjected to harassment and kidnapping incidents and expressed concern over financial penalties imposed on medical professionals. They also highlighted the case of a doctor who, according to the association, was fined Rs100 million.
The association further raised concerns about FBR regulations, saying that certain requirements could have implications for the privacy and confidentiality of patients and doctors. PMA leaders called for the government to address these concerns and find a workable solution.
The PMA has given the government a deadline of October 11 to resolve the matter. The representatives warned that if their concerns remain unresolved, the association could consider announcing a complete shutdown of private medical centres. The final decision, they said, will be taken during a central convention scheduled to be held in Punjab.
