Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has said that herbal medicines are the need of the time.

‎According to details, Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal addressed a seminar on herbal and traditional medicines, where he stated that there is a growing realization that herbal medicines are the need of the time.

‎He said that there are currently no laws or regulations in this regard. “We have deliberated on the matter. Furthermore, the legislative process has moved from the Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Law. Within a few weeks, DRAP will have regulations in place regarding this issue,” he added.

‎The federal minister said that the conference is not against Western medicine, as every field has its own importance. He stated that Western medicines stop having an effect on the body after a certain period of time. He further said that in Pakistan, a sick person takes eight days to recover, whereas in the rest of the world it takes three days. “We build hospitals and do not wait for patients; they become full on the very first day. The healthcare system is producing more sick people,” he remarked.

‎He added that diseases are increasing to such an extent that even if hospitals are built in every street of the country, the number of patients will not decrease. “We are on the brink of disaster. While 85 percent of medicines are being manufactured in Pakistan, the raw materials are still being imported from abroad,” he said.

‎Addressing a ceremony of the National Program for Population Stabilization, Mustafa Kamal said that Pakistan’s population is increasing rapidly. “Our biggest issue is population growth, and the government is working on it,” he stated.

‎He said that the growing population is giving rise to several problems, and young people are facing difficulties in securing government jobs.
