A Shaheen Force official was killed and another sustained injuries in a targeted shooting near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport late Sunday night. The attack, which sent shockwaves through the city’s security apparatus, occurred while the officers were conducting routine patrol duties.
Gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on the officers before fleeing the scene, according to preliminary police reports. The assailants utilized the cover of darkness to vanish into the dense traffic surrounding the airport perimeter.
Emergency teams rushed the wounded officials to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Doctors confirmed one officer succumbed to his injuries upon arrival, while the second remains under medical care. Hospital staff described his condition as stable but noted he is undergoing further observation.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the area, launching a search operation to track the shooters. Investigators are currently scrubbing CCTV footage from the airport’s approach roads, looking for any trace of the motorcycle or the attackers’ route.
The attack marks a sharp escalation in violence targeting law enforcement in the city. While no group has claimed responsibility, authorities are treating it as a calculated strike against the police force.
“We are tracking every lead,” a senior police official told reporters at the scene, his frustration evident. He declined to offer a timeline for potential arrests, focusing instead on the ongoing sweep of the surrounding neighborhoods.
The incident highlights the persistent security vulnerabilities plaguing the city’s major transit hubs. As the investigation continues, the loss of another officer has reignited debates over the safety of police patrols in Karachi’s high-risk zones.
