Following recent rainfall in Karachi, the number of dengue cases is continuously rising, and one person has died due to a severe drop in platelet count.
The monsoon rains have increased the risk of the spread of both dengue and malaria in the city. According to official figures, this year alone, Karachi has reported 547 malaria cases and 260 dengue cases.
The situation has worsened due to piles of garbage across the city, lack of cleanliness and fumigation drives, and stagnant rainwater.
Medical experts have advised the public to take special precautions during the monsoon season, such as covering stored water and being cautious while visiting parks and open areas. Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed from the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital emphasized the need for personal precautions, advising people to keep windows and doors closed.
According to data from the Sindh Health Department, a total of 65,116 malaria cases and 295 dengue cases have been reported across the province so far this year. In Karachi, the number of dengue patients continues to rise, and one person has died due to a critical drop in platelet levels.
