Lahore: Smog has once again engulfed Punjab, pushing Lahore to third place among the world’s most polluted cities. The city recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 247, falling in the “unhealthy” category.
According to the Punjab Air Quality Index, Sheikhupura was the most polluted city with an AQI of 285, followed by Kasur at 270. Within Lahore, the UET area reported a hazardous AQI of 373.
Experts warn that Punjab is heading into another severe smog spell, mainly due to vehicular emissions, industrial smoke, and stubble burning. Last year, pollution levels in Lahore exceeded WHO limits by over 80 times, leading to widespread respiratory illnesses.
Authorities are urging citizens to wear masks, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep children and the elderly indoors as air quality continues to deteriorate.
