Light Rain Forecast for Karachi as Arabian Sea Weather System Weakens

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted light rain and drizzle for Karachi today (Thursday), with humid and sticky conditions likely to persist across the city.

According to the Met Office, Karachi is expected to remain partly cloudy over the next 24 hours. Temperatures may rise to around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum recorded earlier was 26.9°C. Humidity levels have hovered around 74% during the past day, adding to the discomfort.

The current wet spell is linked to a low-pressure system that had been moving closer to the northeastern Arabian Sea in recent days. While the development had sparked concerns of a possible cyclone, the PMD clarified in its latest advisory that the system is not expected to intensify. Instead, it is likely to weaken and dissipate over the sea.

At present, the system is located nearly 440 kilometres south of Karachi. Earlier this week, heavy showers lashed parts of the city, briefly easing the lingering heat.

The PMD has cautioned fishermen in Sindh against venturing into deep waters until Friday, despite no immediate cyclone threat along the coastline.

Meanwhile, moist currents from the Arabian Sea continue to trigger widespread showers and thunderstorms across southeastern Sindh, including Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas and Sanghar. The spell is expected to last until October 2.
