OKARA — A domestic dispute over a man’s intention to take a second wife turned lethal Tuesday night, leaving a woman dead from an electric shock. Police have arrested the suspect, identified as Muhammad Aslam, following a complaint filed by the victim’s family.
The incident occurred in the village of 49/2-L, on the outskirts of Okara. According to investigators, Aslam and his wife, 28-year-old Razia Bibi, had been locked in a heated argument for several days regarding his plan to remarry.
“The argument escalated late at night,” said a senior officer at the local police station. “Aslam allegedly forced his wife to touch a live electrical wire during the confrontation.”
Razia Bibi died on the spot. Family members reported that the couple had been married for eight years and shared three children, who were asleep in another room when the incident occurred.
The suspect initially attempted to frame the death as an accidental electrocution, telling neighbors and responding officers that his wife had tripped over a faulty wire while doing household chores. However, the victim’s brothers were unconvinced. They arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, noted inconsistencies in Aslam’s account, and contacted the police.
A forensic team collected evidence from the house, including the specific wiring involved. Investigators confirmed the electrical setup appeared to have been tampered with to ensure a lethal discharge.
“We are looking into the history of domestic abuse between the two,” the investigating officer said. “The suspect’s claim of an accident doesn’t align with the physical evidence at the scene.”
Aslam remains in custody and is expected to face charges of murder. For the victim’s family, the loss leaves three children without a mother, caught in the wake of a dispute that turned violent before it could be resolved.
