Mohammad Wasim’s tenure as Pakistan women’s head coach set to end

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly decided not to renew Women’s National Team head coach Mohammad Wasim’s contract, with sources confirming that the process of his departure is already underway.

Wasim, who took charge in 2024, is expected to be replaced soon, with a new head coach likely to be announced next week, insiders revealed.

According to sources, team performances continued to decline under Wasim despite receiving full support from the PCB. Contrary to internal claims, Pakistan failed to register a single win at the Women’s World Cup 2025, finishing seventh on the points table.

The sources further added that while Wasim had influence over team selection and staff appointments, the results remained disappointing. Players reportedly complained that Wasim’s coaching involvement was minimal, and that despite his reputation as a batsman, Pakistan’s batting remained their weakest link. Bowling standards also dipped, and fielding errors — including numerous dropped catches — continued to hurt the side.

Some members of the coaching setup described Wasim’s attitude as difficult, saying he failed to build chemistry with the batting and bowling coaches and struggled to connect with players.

Pakistan’s Women’s World Cup campaign began with a seven-wicket defeat to Bangladesh, followed by an 88-run loss against India. Despite a spirited fight against Australia, Beth Mooney’s century and a strong bowling display led the Aussies to victory.

Their best chance came against England, where rain denied Pakistan what could have been their first-ever ODI win over the side. Another key fixture against New Zealand was also washed out.

Pakistan later suffered a 150-run defeat against South Africa, and their final game versus Sri Lanka was abandoned due to rain — capping off a disappointing, winless campaign.
