Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain has been hospitalised in North London after developing multiple health complications, including increased stress on his heart, according to senior party officials.

Party sources confirmed that Hussain was rushed to the hospital on Thursday following a sharp deterioration in his health. “Various medical tests were conducted, and doctors decided to admit him for further treatment,” said senior London-based MQM leader Mustafa Azizabadi while speaking to Geo News.

Qasim Ali Raza, Deputy Convener of the MQM Central Coordination Committee, provided further details on Friday. “Doctors carried out a range of diagnostic tests including blood tests, ECG, CT scan, X-ray, and ultrasound. Mr Hussain has long been suffering from emotional stress, which has taken a toll on his health,” he said.

Doctors also recommended a blood transfusion, which has now been successfully carried out.

According to insiders, the MQM supremo had been struggling with a non-healing foot injury, complicated by his diabetic condition. “While dealing with this, he began experiencing pressure on his heart,” the source said. “His colleagues took immediate action and brought him to the hospital. He is currently in a stable condition.”

Hussain, 71, was previously admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the same hospital in February 2021, after contracting Covid-19. He battled the virus twice that year and recovered on both occasions.

The recent hospitalisation has raised concerns among his supporters, although party leaders have urged calm, assuring that he is receiving the best possible medical care and that his condition has stabilised.
