Lahore: Opposition parties in the Punjab Assembly have raised concerns regarding the legality of the provincial budget, alleging that certain procedural and constitutional requirements may not have been fully met during the budget approval process.

Opposition lawmakers argued that the government should ensure complete transparency and adherence to parliamentary rules when presenting and passing financial legislation. They maintained that any irregularities in the budget process could lead to legal and constitutional challenges.

During assembly proceedings, opposition members questioned the manner in which budget-related documents were presented and debated, calling for greater scrutiny of the government’s fiscal proposals. They also demanded detailed explanations regarding allocations, expenditures, and the approval process.

The provincial government, however, rejected the allegations and insisted that the budget was prepared and presented in accordance with constitutional and legal requirements. Government representatives stated that all parliamentary procedures were followed and that the budget serves the broader interests of development, public welfare, and economic growth.

Political analysts note that disputes over budget procedures are not uncommon during periods of intense political competition. They believe the issue may continue to generate debate in the coming weeks as lawmakers review the budget’s implementation and legal framework.

The controversy comes as Punjab moves forward with its fiscal plans for the new financial year, with key allocations aimed at infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and social welfare programs.
