The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has approved the New National Curriculum of Pakistan (NNCP) 2026, which will be implemented from the 2027-28 academic year.
The revised curriculum will apply to public and private schools in Islamabad and educational institutions operating under federal administration. It will cover Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) through Grade 5.
Under the new curriculum, Urdu, English and Mathematics will be taught as core subjects. Health and Physical Education, along with Arts and Crafts, will also become part of the updated syllabus.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be introduced for students from Grades 1 to 5 to strengthen their digital learning and technology skills.
Students in Grades 1 to 3 will study a subject titled “The World Around Us,” which will introduce them to their surroundings and basic concepts about the world.
Meanwhile, Science and Social Studies will be taught separately to students in Grades 4 and 5 as part of the revised curriculum.
The Ministry has also issued notifications to provincial governments, including Punjab, regarding the implementation of the new national curriculum.
The approved curriculum will be made available on the official website of the National Curriculum Council (NCC), allowing educational institutions and relevant authorities to access the updated guidelines.
The new curriculum aims to establish a common educational framework for early childhood and primary-level students while introducing updated learning areas and technology-related subjects.
