Pakistan is set to launch a sub-national polio vaccination campaign from November 2 to 8, targeting children across 97 districts as part of ongoing efforts to protect them against the poliovirus.
The campaign will focus on administering polio vaccine to eligible children, particularly those under five years of age. Vaccination teams are expected to visit households and designated locations to ensure that as many children as possible receive the vaccine.
The campaign is part of Pakistan’s continued efforts to interrupt the transmission of poliovirus and prevent new infections. Repeated vaccination is essential because children can remain vulnerable to the virus even when they appear healthy.
Parents and caregivers are being encouraged to cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that their children receive the required doses. Health authorities also stress that routine immunisation and supplementary vaccination campaigns work together to strengthen children’s protection against polio.
Polio is a highly infectious disease that can cause permanent paralysis, particularly in young children. Although it can be prevented through vaccination, there is no cure once paralysis develops.
The upcoming campaign will be an important part of Pakistan’s efforts to protect children and move closer to eliminating polio from the country.
