KARACHI: The Healthcare Alliance at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) has warned of a major protest against the hospital administration if a First Information Report (FIR) is not registered against those allegedly involved in a recent assault on doctors.
The warning was issued during the first meeting of the JPMC Healthcare Alliance, organised by the hospital’s Young Doctors Association (YDA) unit at Ward No. 17. Representatives of several healthcare organisations attended the meeting, including the Pakistan Medical Association, Pakistan Islamic Medical Association, Peoples Paramedics, MPM Pakistan, Pakistan Paramedical Staff and the Nursing Association.
Participants strongly condemned the alleged violence against doctors and expressed concern over the delay in registering an FIR. They called on the hospital administration to take immediate action and ensure that those responsible face legal proceedings.
The alliance set a midnight deadline for the registration of the FIR. It warned that if the demand was not met, healthcare workers would stage a major protest outside the JPMC Administration Block at noon on Wednesday.
The alliance also indicated that its next steps could include a boycott of outpatient departments (OPDs), operation theatres and other hospital services. However, representatives agreed that any decision to suspend medical services would be taken collectively after consultation.
Dr Shahid Awan, president of the YDA JPMC unit, demanded the immediate registration of an FIR and strict legal action against those allegedly involved in the assault. He stressed that doctors, nurses, paramedics and other healthcare workers must be able to perform their duties in a safe environment.
The alliance said its member organisations stood united in demanding justice and accountability. It warned that failure to address the matter could lead to further protests and possible disruption of hospital services.
