The federal government has maintained current petrol prices for the next fortnight, opting to keep the retail cost unchanged as of August 11, 2026. Official notifications released by the Finance Division confirm that the ex-depot price for petrol remains at the existing rate, providing a brief period of predictability for consumers facing ongoing inflationary pressures.

This decision follows a review of international oil markets, where prices have leveled off after weeks of volatility. While local fuel costs are pegged to global benchmarks and the rupee-dollar exchange rate, the current stability in both metrics gave officials room to avoid a hike.

The move comes as a relief to the transport and logistics sectors, which have been struggling with high operational costs. However, analysts warn that the respite may be temporary. With global supply chains still reactive to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, any sudden shift in crude oil benchmarks will likely force a price adjustment in the next review cycle.

Despite the stable headline rate, inflation remains a persistent burden for the average household. Even without a fuel price hike, the cost of essential goods—driven by high transportation overheads from previous months—continues to stretch household budgets.

“The decision to hold prices is a practical one, but it doesn’t solve the underlying cost-of-living crisis,” said an energy sector analyst based in Islamabad. “Until we see a sustained downward trend in global energy markets, the consumer remains at the mercy of factors far beyond our borders.”

The government’s decision effectively puts the burden of absorbing potential minor fluctuations on the state-run oil marketing companies, prioritizing price stability over immediate revenue gains. With the next price review scheduled for August 25, the market is bracing for what comes next as the global oil supply remains unpredictable.
