The Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) has officially severed ties with the recent controversy surrounding Arif Khan Saqi, asserting that the key figure involved, Ali Gohar Shah, is no longer part of their ranks.

Party leadership issued a clarification following the incident, stating that Shah had formally defected to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) some time ago. The move appears to be a calculated effort to insulate the Pir Pagara-led party from the legal and political fallout currently engulfing Saqi.

For the PML-F, the priority is clear: avoiding any association with the allegations currently swirling around the case. By highlighting Shah’s transition to the PPP, the party is effectively shifting the burden of accountability onto their political rivals in Sindh.

The incident has triggered a broader debate over political loyalties and the shifting allegiances in Sindh’s interior. Observers note that such disavowals are common when local disputes turn into public scandals, yet the speed of this response suggests the PML-F is anxious to maintain its distance from the ongoing investigation.

While the PPP has yet to issue a formal rebuttal regarding Shah’s current standing, the timing of the PML-F’s statement leaves little room for ambiguity. They aren’t just distancing themselves from the act; they are drawing a firm line between their party and the individuals involved.

As law enforcement continues to probe the specifics of the case, the PML-F’s public exit from the narrative serves as a reminder of how quickly political parties move to protect their brand when a local incident threatens to become a national headache. Whether this tactical distancing will hold up under further scrutiny, however, remains the central question for the party’s local leadership.
